FAM · SPONSORS & PARTNERS

Genuine relationships
still get refused every day.

IRCC's bar for evidence has climbed. A wedding photo album is not a file. We build inland and outland spousal, common-law, and family sponsorship applications that document the relationship the way an officer needs to see it.

THE LANDSCAPE

What's actually
happening right now.

A quick read of the policy weather before we open your file - so the strategy fits the ground you're standing on.

Updated for 2026 policy
01 / 03

Inland spousal sponsorship is the go-to for couples already living together in Canada - and it now comes with an open work permit that IRCC issues quickly. But it also comes with the heaviest evidence requirement of any PR stream.

02 / 03

Outland spousal sponsorship is the right choice when the sponsored partner is living abroad, travels frequently, or needs the option to keep working or studying outside Canada while the application is processed. It is also the faster route for many couples and allows for a right of appeal if the application is refused.

03 / 03

Officers are trained to look for red flags: fast marriages, minimal cohabitation history, large age or cultural gaps without context, missing communication trails. None of these disqualify a real relationship - but every one needs to be addressed in the file, not around it.

HOW WE WORK

Four phases. No handoffs.

4 phases · one RCIC
01PHASE 01

Relationship & sponsor review

We audit sponsor eligibility (income, prior sponsorships, undertakings) and map the relationship timeline. Any red flags come out of the shadows on day one.

001
02PHASE 02

Evidence build

Cohabitation proofs (leases, joint accounts, insurance, government mail), communication history, photos with context, statutory declarations from people who know you.

002
03PHASE 03

File assembly & SOWP

Full sponsorship + PR application. For inland files, a spousal open work permit is filed in parallel so the partner can start working within weeks. For outland files, we coordinate medicals, biometrics, and passport requests through the nearest visa office.

003
04PHASE 04

Post-filing management

Interview preparation if required, response to procedural fairness letters, medicals and biometrics tracking, and communication with IRCC through to landing.

WHERE FILES FAIL

The three pitfalls we see most.

Thin cohabitation evidence

"We've been together five years" is not proof. Overlapping addresses on government-issued documents, joint utilities, and mail across time is what an officer needs.

Sponsor income for PGP but not spousal

Spousal sponsorship has no minimum income requirement. PGP does. Clients often confuse the two - we make sure you're applying under the right rules.

Prior sponsorship undertakings still active

If a sponsor previously sponsored someone and the undertaking is still in effect, they may be barred from sponsoring again. We check this before filing.

QUESTIONS WE GET

Straight answers.

Can we file inland if my partner is on a visitor visa?+

Yes, as long as they have valid visitor status when the application is submitted. We often file inland sponsorship + a visitor record extension or SOWP together to keep the partner in-status throughout.

How long until my spouse gets a work permit?+

Inland sponsorship comes with an open work permit. IRCC currently issues SOWPs to inland spousal applicants within weeks of filing - much faster than the PR itself.

Do we need to be married?+

No. Common-law partners (12+ months continuous cohabitation) qualify under the same rules as married spouses. Conjugal partner sponsorship is a narrower category for couples who cannot cohabit or marry due to specific barriers.

Should we choose inland or outland spousal sponsorship?+

Choose inland if your partner is already in Canada with valid status and wants to work here while the application is processed. Choose outland if your partner is abroad, travels often, or wants the option to keep working outside Canada and the right to appeal a refusal. We recommend the best route after reviewing your specific situation.

CLIENT SNAPSHOT

Canadian permanent resident sponsoring a spouse from overseas.

GOAL

Reunite in Canada under Family Class sponsorship.

THE CHALLENGE

The couple had few wedding functions due to personal family circumstances - the usual bulk of visual and documentary evidence that officers rely on was missing.
